Duration of the exhibition: 18. 9. (Fri) – 11. 10. (Sun) 2020

The exhibition presents the latest sculptural works by the Trnava´s artist Martin Kochan (1981). Though his works have an intermedia scope from painting, photograph, performance up to interventions in the public, here they present mostly his sculptural works and a way of figurative modelling (thus, he makes good use of sculptural training in Brno in the atelier of Prof. Michal Gabriel). The exhibition presents the current series of sculptural works from the years 2019 – 2020 in which he brings hybrid anatomically adapted creatures – a combination of man, animals and things into an odd whole. It is the implementation of sketches and designs from the previous years where appear an oversized figure with “dislocated“ and replaced parts of the body (Replacement of dislocation, 2020), dissipated boys with turned necks and beer from the series of “pub art“ created together with Cyril Blažo in pubs, inns, and snack bars (Drinking boys, 2019 – 2020). These central compositions in black are seconded by smaller white cast sculptures of a strange stylized dancer with snake legs (Dancer, 2020) or man-dolphin who “submerges himself“ in the study of Koniarek´s works (Dolphin, 2020).

Martin Kochan (born in 1981, Trnava), lives and works in Trnava.
He is a graduate from the Pedagogical Faculty at Trnava University in Trnava (2007) and the Faculty of Fine Arts at Brno University of Technology (2008 – 2010). In the year 2014, he was a finalist of Oskar Čepan Award. More information at: www.martinkochan.com

The project was supported from the public sources by “Fond na podporu umenia” (the Slovak Arts Council).
