During his university studies at the end of the 1960´s already, František Blažo (1946) brought a pioneer and peculiar interpretation of the aesthetics of comics and the sequence of scenes. They were large pictures (usually on plywood), densely covered with elaborated stories filled with plenty square figures in caricatural positions. Thus, he has created an irregular rhytm of fragments from various areas: erotica, western, religion, household chores, literary stories, extract of texts, poetry, and letters. Just this interlinking of collage, comics and grotesque creates a uniqueness of his artistic expression. Also in his present-day works, František Blažo shows dynamic structures and scenes modelled on computer, often just against the background of older comics stories.

The works by Marko Blažo (1972) are founded on the poetics of paradox, the inversion of relationships, and on a relieved game of elements and humorous situations. It is above all introducing the turned optics, an exchange of conventional tasks and creating absurd, reverse connections. Since the half of the 1990´s, he has brought all the register of characteristic “affected“ situations (paper jigsaw puzzles, model trains, frequent citations from the history of art from the antique period up to Hokusai). After the year 2010, his prevailing works are digital prints with a possible painting input or commentary. They present most of all an author´s inner world of the introvert where a basis of deliberation is his child´s world, obsessive memories and a pictorial “kit“of free associations.

On double-exhibition of František Blažo and Marko Blažo it is possible to notice also their common or similar sources: predominant primary modelling of the image on computer, square performance of figures and scenes, kaleidoscopic assembling and sequential arranging episodes, remixing the older and proven motives etc. They are cheerful multi-coloured “pixelated“ visions, but also their de-compressions with a critical subtext. At the same time, it is the first shared performance of father and his son in the artistic scene.
