The exhibition project under the title BLACK FLOWER (ČIERNY KVET) brings a profile presentation of two leading Slovak artists Michal Černušák (born 1982) and Marek Kvetan (born 1976). The aim of the project is to present their current works during the last period of time and refer to similarities of their programmes in a variety of media: Černušák (painting), Kvetan (objects). It concerns a common ground in which are shown the global world of mass media information, capital and manipulations, diseases of the powerful people and their critical reflection. Just the critical and ironical view connects them and gives us a possibility to perceive how the global world penetrates into our living rooms and minds (therefore also "black flower" as the reverse side of the developing monopoly capitalism).

In the spacious scenes of acrylic and airbrush by Michal Černušák, there appear floating objects, politicians, astronauts as well as developers, debauching beach parties, plummeting American dream, but also scenes of catastrophes, collisions with a crowd of people, or supremoes with "burnt-out” eyes (Leaders, Omenclature, We Saw You). These illusive whirlpool "adult games" with green toy soldiers are uncomprehendingly looked on by the scattered toys, dummies, and small bulldozers (We Are Not Your Toys, Eastern Developer).

In Marek Kvetan ´s multistratal works we follow a programme concentration on the limiting 3D implementations, absurd situations, and objects. Those reflect present-day mass media buzz, TV reality, luxury as well as the taste of “hobby“ do-it-yourself, and also penetrating the global world into our living rooms (GloBalkan live). The author models a parallel constructing reality, the culture of “disable“ dailiness. Here, a small shift or a tiny variance bring a distinct change in the meaning of the work. Kvetan usually focuses on the fragment, detail, on a “cracked-up“ situation, which metaphorically says about the whole (Parallel System, Reconfiguration Crystal, Arc etc.).

The exhibition will last until 15 March 2020. It was supported from the public sources by the Fond na podporu umenia (the Slovak Arts Council).
