MICHAL CZINEGE: There Must Be Something There

Author, exhibition title:
MICHAL CZINEGE: There Must Be Something There
Koppel villa GJK, Zelený kríček 3, Trnava
10 February (Thursday), 6 pm, Koppel villa GJK
10 February 2011 – 27 March 2011

Within the presentation of contemporary painting Jan Koniarek Gallery in Trnava has included into its dramaturgy an individual presentation by Michal Czinege (1980), a noticeable representative of young generation of painters. The author’s exhibition called There Must be Something There is at the same time a final exhibition project of his doctorate studies which he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava (2006-11, tutor: Prof. Ivan Csudai).
The title “There Must be Something There” reflects Czinege’ s process of examination of relationship between a traditional painting medium and digital technologies and at the same time it reminds of the way how he is looking for his heroes using a computer. It also reflects the way how to recollect the spaces and the country by means of painting. The exhibition title is also used for the series of paintings that closes his dissertation thesis research.
Superimposition of the picture influenced by digital technologies is the topic of the works displayed and of contemporary works by Czinege. He has created a number of series of paintings and exhibition projects in which the superimposition has a different character. In his works he also deals with the relationship between one’s own imagination and synthetic space represented by virtual reality offered by digital technologies.
The character of the Trnava Gallery space which is divided into five rooms is ideal for presentation of two principal series of paintings called Amnesia and “There Must be Something There” supplemented by drawings and author’s books. Even more experimental positions will be presented at the exhibition such as shaped canvas and paintings on transparent chiffon. Amnesia (2008-2009) is a series of non-figural paintings - a series of large lands where mostly improvisation is used which is in a close relation to drawing. At the turn of the years 2009/2010 a parallel series of paintings called “There Must be Something There” emerged joining the method of a painting creation from the Amnesia series with figuration of Czinege’s creation previous periods. A direct response to the space of the exhibition in a form of wall painting will also be a part of the exhibition.
An individual author’s catalogue will be issued at the occasion of the exhibition.
