The exhibition called the Picantoteca represents a trio of contemporary Slovak artists having relationship with Trnava region and who have won their way on both Slovak and international stage in the last decade at as well. With regard to the exhibition name which has been derived from the word “pinacoteca”- a picture gallery, its main topic is presentation of three positions of a contemporary picture ranging from a figural painting through photography to collages and digital manipulation. In spite of the generation gap a common platform of the three artists is a reflection of a present world by means of massmedia influence, technical pictures, reproductions and internet presentations.
Thus, it is a contemporary picture that mirrors the modern world with its “hot” topics and sharp “spicy” view of the authors. Forming a current visual language the artists have chosen specific approaches and different artistic strategies. Blažo creates small stories, collages or interventions into the reproductions found in magazines or on the internet. Using minor modifications (overlapping, tearing or sticking) he brings vigorous shifts in meaning and humorous and ironical situations. Černušák prefers monitoring of pressing problematic situations of today’s life (globalization, power of politicians and commercial corporations, terrorism, etc.), which are re-introduced onto his large canvas- sharply and convincingly. Rónaiová brings more introvert position of the painter’s world record and her painting “deconstructions” (depiction of the atelier space, superposition, and archeology of one’s creation, making experiments in a painter’s world- a hyper realistic painting, interpretation, painting on a digital print, repaint, interference into another work of art and a context, etc.)
The exhibition project was originated in co-operation with Jan Koniarek Gallery in Trnava and the Slovak Institute in Budapest and it will be held until 27th January 2011.
